All Who Are weary

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Winter in Indiana

I have grown to appreciate the sights of winter. It took some time because for as long as I can remember, my mantra has been: “I hate winter!”

In the winter of 2018, I started getting into my car and driving out into the country to find Sandhill Cranes. I was immediately struck by the ethereal beauty of these huge birds. Their silver wings flashing, their haunting music filling the gray winter sky.

I began to have the thought, “Maybe winter isn’t so bad.”

Over the years, I began to comprehend that there’s actually a LOT going on in the winter.

I believe that there is a Creator God who brought forth the abundant life we see around us. No matter how discouraging and overwhelming things are in our world and our nation, God’s creation still astounds and blesses us, and offers rest for our weary souls.

In the busy-ness of summer, when I am planting and mowing and pulling weeds, I don’t have the time to sit with nature as I do in the winter.

May you embrace the beauty of God—even during the winter seasons of your life.
