When I see folks these days, I often get a question like, “What are you doing these days?” Or “Where have you been hiding?”
I usually give some vague answer, “Oh, I’ve been doing stuff.” I’ve been birding.

I’ve also been working on projects.

I’m helping to teach a boy how to drive!🥴

I have unofficially gone “back to school.” I have found some incredible teachers on YouTube and have been doing in-depth studies with them. You might even say I have been “re-constructing” my faith. In a period that I thought was kind of a spiritual and emotional desert, I am finding instead that it’s a deep period of learning and deepening.
One teacher is full of grace and warm invitation into understanding the deep truths of God. Another teacher is a scholar—who spends a lot of time refuting the writings and arguments of atheists and scoffers.
A third is a fierce, prophetic student of scripture who doesn’t care who is offended or upset about his teaching. He just puts his truth about the scripture out there (in great depth and detail) and lets it stand.
I asked myself last week (well actually on several occasions) “Are you ever going to do a with all of this stuff you’re learning?”
I hope that I will be able to do something with what I’m learning. The last three years have certainly reminded me of what I believe. Maybe I’ll start by putting out into the conversation some of those insights.
May you be blessed by God in this new year. May you, also, find ways to reconnect with the God of all truth and the only Savior capable of raising us out of the complicated and chaotic world we are living in these days.
