Today America’s foundations are giving way, and our nation will fall if we don’t recognize it. Our foundation is NOT our constitution. Heretofore it has been our God. Now He is closed out of public life and conversation and being forced into seclusion in our churches. The absolutes of God have been changed into “maybe” or “whatever.” Our thinking today is based on philosophy, not theology.
We have learning, rhetoric, fashion, wealth, luxury, splendid buildings and superb machinery. But we are powerless, for lack of power, which can be obtained only through the fullness of the Spirit. Has the tremendous surge of knowledge forecast in the book of Daniel (through social media) brought us any closer to God?
It isn’t likely that America will return to a more traditional moral code until the nation experiences significant pain for our moral choices. Don’t be shocked by what is happening in our world. It’s what happens when people refuse the grace of God. But God has not turned His back on our chaotic world, and neither should we.
What can we do, as just one person, to stem the tide? We believers have much power, and Paul the apostle advises us in Colossians 3:
“Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other. And forgive whatever grievances you may have against each other. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues, put on love, which binds all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of God rule in your hearts. And be thankful. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
Yes, we can make a difference! Let the healing of our nation begin with us.
I am captured anew by the memorable words of Psalm 84: “Who, passing through the Valley of Bacca, make it a well.” Wells in deserts. In the desert that is this world, be a well.
