He Likes to Be Found

I was talking to my sister the other day. She was describing her grandson and playing, “Hide and seek.” Ang is a storyteller of the first order, so you could see the game come to life through her words.

Little man likes to hide, but Gigi says he is NOT stealthy. He wiggles and makes a lot of noise and really isn’t too worried about staying hidden!

I said to Gigi, “So basically, he wants to be found?” My sister laughed and said, “Yes, I guess that’s true.”

Like my little nephew, I think we also “like to be found.” We want our Lord to know us. If we are lost or lonely, we want God to meet us where we are and bring us back to a safe place and a known place.

Jeremiah 33:2-3 offers these words, “This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it—the LORD is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and I searchable things you do not know.”

And in Jeremiah 29:13: “You will seek me and find me when you seek for me with all your heart.”

It’s a wonderful feeling to think that someone knows you, that someone understands the essence of who you are. That you are loved and accepted—even with your faults and weaknesses. God is seeking a relationship like that with each one of us. He calls us out of the places where we hide and the things of this life that don’t bring real solace or comfort. He isn’t hiding. He wants to be found.
