The Beauty of Brown Season

In recent years, I have been paying more attention to all that I can see and appreciate during” brown season.” Now, by and large I am not a fan of winter. But as I have begun to travel through the countryside, the benefits of winter emerge.

I love to see the trees —see the forms and shapes, see the scars and brokenness.

There are different shades of brown. Red browns. Grey browns. Gold browns. Almost black browns!

It’s hard to capture the hues and subtleties with my iPhone camera, but I keep trying!

I am appreciating Brown Season more these days. Seeing things that are hidden from view when the full growth and foliage of summer is in play. That’s when I can see the barns, and fields, and farm animals, and yes, the Sandhill Cranes and other birds on bare tree limbs.

Long live Brown Season!! Ok, not really! But we can at least see it’s up side!

Go see some barns!
