Revelation 5:21
“And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ Also he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’”
Maybe you know what I mean when I talk about “Brown Season.” It’s that time of year after the white of Winter and before the green of Spring. It’s pretty drab, even dull.
As we having been driving through the countryside over the past few weeks, we have obviously been in Brown Season. It makes our hearts yearn for days to come!
But there is definitely a beauty of its own to brown season. It offers visibility that you don’t get during the bloom of Summer. The form and shape of the trees stands out in stark relief. Homesteads and structures not visible when the corn stands tall in the fields can be seen,
I don’t know how many times Mom or I has said, “I’ve never seen THAT before!”
The brown seasons in our lives can also reveal what’s true. What is core or essential to my being? What strength and resilience is revealed when the full growth of happy and easier times is not present? What do I see about myself that I didn’t remember was there?
We probably have have favorite seasons of our lives. But as those of us who live in Indiana know, there’s something to be said for being able to fully experience all of them.
Savor the clarity and visual value of brown season!
