One day while I was working, I was having a conversation with myself. I was trying to figure out the motivations and actions (or lack thereof) of the “younger generation.” I guess this is the point in your life when you officially start getting old—when you’re thinking about the “younger generation!”
I was wondering about what actually excites and energizes younger people. Does anything really get them revved up and moving in a positive direction?
Church? Meh…
Faith? Meh
Hymns? Meh…
Community service? Meh…
Family? Meh…
Work? Meh…
I Googled the term “meh,” and here’s what I got—“uninspiring, unexceptional.” “Expressing a lack of interest or enthusiasm.”
I don’t think I’m a part of the “Meh Generation.” I get interested and passionate about things! I have a lot of things that provoke an enthusiastic “YEAH!” Instead of a lethargic “meh!” And even if I am not feeling super motivated on occasions, I still prod myself into action because I have found that once I’m moving and active, I get engaged and can even drum up some enthusiasm. All of the areas I mentioned above are critical to me. Faith? Yeah. Music? Yeah. Faith community? (Work in progress!) Community service? Yeah!! Family? Heck yeah!!! Work? Mostly yeah!

I have to stay connected and motivated. People can encourage and support me, but I have to make decisions on a daily basis to keep moving in positive directions. I have to seek out resources for deepening my faith. I have to choose to go where I find inspiration. I have to challenge myself to grow and learn. I need to associate with people and organizations that strive to bring positive change.
How about you? Is it “Meh? Or “Yeah?!”
